Joy Douglas is a recent magna cum laude graduate from Adelphi University (B.F.A Dance, Spanish Minor, Levermore Global Scholars Program, Sigma Delta Pi inductee). She began her dance training at the Flint School of Performing Arts under the direction of Karen Mills Jennings. At Adelphi she has had the pleasure of choreographing several pieces for the Student Showcase. For two consecutive years her work - (One More Time) For The People In The Back (‘17), and Excerpts from Sisu (‘18) - was selected to be performed in the Gala Concert of the Northeastern Conference of the American College Dance Association. In the Fall 2017 she had the pleasure of co-choreographed a contemporary ballet work with Jennifer Kreichman for the mainstage dance performance at Adelphi University.In addition to this Douglas has been showcasing her work with Douglas & Co. at various institutions throughout NY and NJ. Her work has been performed at the New York State Dance Education Association’s winter conference at Hunter College, Gibney’s “I <3 GDC” benefit performance, The Choreography Seminar hosted by Hofstra held at NYU Tisch, and the Northeastern Conference of the American College Dance Association at Montclair State University. In April 2018, Douglas’ work “Excerpts of Sisu” was performed at Adelphi University’s Research Day and was named the Undergraduate Division winner in Dance Research. Most recently the premiere of Sisu was presented at Adelphi University in May of 2018. Douglas is incredibly honored to be working with such talented and wholesome artists. In addition to choreographing and dancing in NY, Douglas is also the Community Action Associate at Gibney in Manhattan, New York.
Douglas is currently a 2018-2019 LEIMAY Artistic Process Fellow at CAVE, Brooklyn, NY.
